Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grant Increases to £9,000 from July — Here’s How We Can Help You Apply

Outside of a home with a heat pump installed on the ground.

From July 2026, homeowners with oil or LPG heating systems will be able to access a higher Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant of £9,000 — a significant increase from the previous £7,500 support level. This uplift is designed to make switching to a low carbon heating system, such as an air source or ground source heat pump, more affordable for rural and off gas grid households.

If you’re thinking about upgrading your heating system, this is the ideal time to take advantage of the increased funding. Our team can manage the entire process for you — from eligibility checks to installation and grant application.

 What’s Changing in July?

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has confirmed that:

  • The BUS grant will increase to £9,000 for homes currently heated by oil or LPG.
  • The uplift applies to air to water heat pumps and ground source heat pumps.
  • Applications for the increased grant are expected to open July 2026, subject to the formal grant notice.

This change is part of a wider government effort to help households move away from volatile fossil fuel prices and adopt cleaner, more efficient heating,

Who Qualifies for the £9,000 Grant?

You may be eligible if:

  • Your home is in England or Wales.
  • Your current heating system uses oil or LPG.
  • You are replacing it with a heat pump installed by an MCS certified installer.
  • You have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

Around 1.7 million homes in England and Wales use oil or LPG — many in rural areas — meaning a large number of households stand to benefit from this increased support.

How the Grant Works

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is installer led, which means:

  • You don’t need to apply yourself.
  • We apply for the grant on your behalf.
  • The £9,000 is deducted upfront from your installation cost — you only pay the remaining balance.

This makes the process simple, fast, and stress free for homeowners.

Why the Government Is Increasing the Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grant ?

According to DESNZ, households using oil and LPG have been hit hardest by recent fuel price volatility. The uplift aims to:

  • Reduce the cost of switching to low carbon heating
  • Support rural and off gas grid homes
  • Encourage long term energy independence and stability
